Dog with kidney masses

Going to start this discussion in the hope.my lovely boxer Amy lives a few months and to help others...

Amy is 7 yrs old... The mean norm for kidney issues in dogs is 8... Shes active, eating and showing no signs of issues save for...

Recently started refusing breakfast
Slight weight loss
Irregular rapid and shallow breathing... I used to nudge her to make sure she was still breathing.

Second opinion confirms massive tumor.. 14cm x 12cm x 6cm. Given medication for cancer treatment (may damage kidney), possible ulcer and non inflammatory plus pill for not eatting. That was yesterday. Today Amy is full of life... That is why I am writing this... Read all the symptoms of end stage kidney failure and no way will I put her through those... So.. As of today .. She's happy, no pain and eatting again.. I know days are numbered... We re taking her and kaylie away next week to a farmhouse,,, probably her last. Holiday.. But at least a few more happy days chasing cows and barking at anything that comes into view.. In her new home :)... Will keep u posted.. Already decided to get. Puppy in November.. Hope Amy us around to be a granny... Sigh... Tears... Xx

Jemma thanks for the reply, Amy is sick, but we caught this before she is showing any Kidney failure. It maybe a day away or months away, who knows. I just wanted to post here as the Scans show her left kidney to be totally disfunctional. The first signs as stated were appetite loss and a small weigh loss. Today she is still enjoying life and I hope she does for a Longggggggg time yet, but the posts are to help others. J.

As Amy is so ill, it may be the best option to put her out of her misery, pain and discomfort.

As the kidneys are failing, she will progressively get worse.  It would be a different matter if she at least had one good kidney and there were good prospects of Amy recovering.

Thanks for the responses, she has been to a vet and I have all the scans and urology / blood results to hand. I wanted to just post a bi-daily update on her condition to help others. The diagnosis is "poor" her left kidney is enlarged (8cm) and just black on x-ray i.e. massive tumer. Some nodules already in right kidney and spleen. Vet does not know how long, hence I am keeping a record here of her daily performance. Today, she is eating poorly so far, but that was the first thing we noticed i.e. off her morning feed. So I will probably update later. Monday I am taking her for 2nd opinion, but it seems inevitable it's matter of keeping her comfortable until the day. Just hope I get plenty of them as shes only 7.5 yrs old. J.

I agree with SassyLassie, that you do need to take Amy to the vet urgently.

The vet will examine Amy and will let you know what's the best thing for Amy.  If she is very ill with no hope of getting better the Vet will tell you.  Sometimes we have to choose what is best for our beloved pet rather than let the animal suffer.

My Sam (a long haired silver Persian) was very ill with kidney problems and although it was heart breaking, we had to let him go to the heavens above.  They do suffer quite badly with kidney problems.  If there is no hope, do the right thing for Amy.

Let us know how you get on.
Best wishes

You need to see your vet as soon as possible, she is probably suffering some and needs some relief.
