sores in ears

Hello am new to this forum so i am happy to have found yz. I have a 6-7 year old staff. we got him from the rescue centre almost three years ago and when we got him most of his tail was bald! the vet said it was more likley hes damaged the hair folacles when having flees at some time in his life. he also gets open sores in his ears regualy, that i usualy bathe and use dogs ear cleaner/disinfectant witch usualy heels them but they reappear...could my dog have a skin allergie, i think this now as he always sneezes, and i have put him on dry mix the last couple of months and the seems to be a small growth of hair on his tail.... any idears???

many thanks
zz

It could also be a fungal infection, which is more common in dogs with floppy ears.  The ear fold keeps in more moisture than in pointed-eared dogs.  It would be a good idea to have your vet take a look so you're not blindly throwing things at the problem that may not work, or may make the situation worse.  It's also a good idea to occasionally check for, and remove, any ear wax that is visible.  We swab ears with a Q-tip about once a month.

It might be allergies but it might be ear mites. Smell his ear if it stinks he has ear mites.  Try treating him for them and if the sores continue to appear contact your vet.
