I'm sorry for your loss, sometimes I tear up just thinking about whats coming eventually. But for now I want to do anything I can to help her.The vet had her on gabapentin 2 times a day. Just made her lay around all day sleeping,no energy. they cut dose in half and started the jerking movements. trying prednisolone, not twitching but everything else is worse. throwing up,laying around. just looks like she is miserable.Weaning her off. I dont really want to put her on phenobarbitol, read to many bad side effects. Just found a site called allergicpet.com that has a natural seizure medication thinking about trying it. just wondering if anyone else has used this medication from this site.
It does sound like seizures. My Siberian husky developed seizures from a brain tumor and I lost her. My current dog, a ridgeback mix, started having little seizures and it seemed to be related to starting her on ginkgo biloba, which I tried to help her with her symptoms of dementia. Stopping it seemed to allow the seizures to stop.
If you could afford an MRI of her brain you could rule out a brain tumor. I could not afford it. I had to have necropsy performed after she passed away to diagnose it. I don't know why regular vets have trouble diagnosing seizures. I could not get anybody to keep her overnight and observe her for me.
she is a shephard lab chow mix about 60lbs shes a little overweight.
It may be helpful to readers to know what breed you dog is, or just the approximate size - small, medium, or large. The age is at the upper life expectancy limits from most large dogs. I'm sure you know this, sorry to mention, it is a question that enters my mind.
Hope you get a specific input on the medication question.
