Gum chewing Seizures?

Hi, I have a new 8 week old great dane, which I have owned for 1 week. Last night he began what looked like some focal seizure activity. Mouth chewing/smacking with alot of drooling that lasted for only 10 seconds each time and happened about every hour. He was distressed afterword but eventually became his normal chipper self. This happened about every hour and this morning has no complications and is as if it never happened. I was wondering if this could be toxin induced? He got into the cat litter box and ate some of the crystals and probably stool. Oh, and he had diarrhea the first few days we had him, which went away immediately after changing his dog food. So could this be toxoplasmosis, canine distemper, or something else? His temp was 102.5 rectally and glucose level was 190.

Karla makes a good point but I hesitated going there.  Seizures can be hereditary that is why I asked about a health guarantee, contract and health record.  Any reputable breeder supplies these things.  I seldom let puppies go before 8 weeks, minimum.
Aside from all that, do consult with your Vet and get on track.  I hope it isn't  so, but if this pup is having seizures, get something in writing from your Vet.
I know you are attached now but if that is the case. The "breeder" should take the pup back and refund your money assuming there is nothing that has transpired while the pup has been with you.  You have every right to have a healthy pet.
Please do keep us updated.

The Breeder probably "Lied" about the parents/seizures &/or the vaccines.....Why you ask? Because a good breeder wouldn't have let a 7 week old puppy, go to a new home! Knowing full well that 8-10 weeks is an extremely important time to still be w/mom AND siblings!!!!  Sorry!  :(   Karla

Glad you at least contacted the breeder and hope she is being honest.  I assume she meant he has had his 1 or 2 shots and she gave you a record to take to the Vet.  The Vet will probably offer a Puppy Plan for shots and wormings.  You don't want to take him to public places, parks, etc until all his shots are done.  One it two shots does not necessarily mean he is protected
Good to know you have an appt set up.
Have you noticed anymore of these episodes?
That must be one big puppy.  :-)

Thanks for your comments. He has had all of his shots/vaccinations. The breeder stated that none of his parents have seizures. The vet was contacted and we have an appointment in a few days. She said to bring him in sooner if it happens again.

I really can't advise you but that does sound like odd behavior.

I will ask if you have contacted the breeder?  Do you have a health guarantee?
Have you taken him to the Vet for an exam? Has he had any shots and had his stool checked?  Has he been wormed?  Probably a good time to speak to your Vet and mention what you have seen.  If possible, try to take a picture or video if he does this again.

Diarrhea is not that uncommon as he was stressed and it seems to have resolved with the food change.  Stools still should be checked by the Vet.
That would be a normal rectal temp.  Not sure on the Glucose.
Hope he is ok and please keep us updated.
