I am SO sorry to hear about your little Rico. If he's already been diagnosed with kidney failure, these odd symptoms could very well mean you are looking at the end. When the kidneys can no longer do their job of filtering toxins out of the blood, those toxins eventually get high enough to cross the blood-brain barrier. That means you'll see some very odd mental and physical symptoms including loss of sight, hearing, physical coordination, etc.
Unfortunately, kidney failure is usually diagnosed far too late to do anything about it. Once those kidney cells are destroyed, they don't grow back. That means early diagnosis is key to survival. Dietary changes can help prevent damage to the remaining healthy kidney cells, but only if the problem is diagnosed very early. Usually, symptoms don't even show up until it's too late.
I hope you were able to get Rico back to your vet today and at least have a better idea of what is going on.
This doesn't have anything to do w/renal failure but if he is also staggering when he walks he may have vestibular disease, commonly caused by an inner ear infection. I hope you and your dog are ok and you have heard from the vet. Please let us know whats happening.
I'm so sorry your Rico has this kidney failure. Poor boy!
I am afraid I don't know exactly what the eye symptoms are, as I don't know enough about kidney failure and all its symptoms....but have you heard anything from the vet by now?
So sorry you waited for so long for a response here.
