Why is there a painful, swollen lump wrapped around my hyoid bone?

I can't seem to find anyone experiencing a similar issue to this and have reached a breaking point of anxiety worrying about it. I have "something" on or near my hyoid bone. It feels somewhat like a vein or tendon, it is obviously looped over the right side of the structure, and I can move it aside (although it moves back on its own.) The scary part is that it's painful, obviously swollen, feel kind of like a bump at the bottom, and not going away. Has anyone else experienced this? Just knowing I'm not alone would be relieving. Thank you.
