Dr. Wilkenson- Thank you for the advice. You were exactly right. I had a second opinion at a hospital in New Orleans. The doctor determined the nerve was damaged and the prosthesis was embedded into the vestibule. He removed the prosthesis and repaired my ear drum. I can't hear but at least I haven't been dizzy since the surgery. I'm trying to adjust to the hearing loss. I also have Otosclerosis in my other ear. My hearing loss is currently classified as moderate. I'm considering a hearing aid for that ear. Do you think it would be worth it to purchase a hearing aid?
Hi Peyton, unfortunately it sounds like you experienced profound hearing loss after your stapedectomy. This is a risk of the procedure. The surgeon may be getting a CT scan to see whether the prosthesis is too far into the vestibule. If you are having ongoing dizziness this is very important. Good luck with your ongoing evaluation.
I wonder if you got a perilymph fistula from the surgery? I should think they'd want to move faster on figuring out the hearing loss. But then, I don't know anything about stapedectomy. Good luck!!
