Ear piercing infected.

I've had my ears pierced for a good 3 years now, and about 4 months ago, I put in a pair of earrings that caused my piercings to become infected. I took them out, treated the infection and everything has been fine. I haven't put any earrings in since then, however today, my left ear, which was the worst the first time around, is suddenly infected again. Earlier today it was fine and now tonight it was burning and swollen and I had to 'pop' it so to say and get all the pus out which had a yellow tint to it. Why is this happening and what can I do to prevent it again?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament. But the pus needs to be drained completely for the antibiotics to start working. And this is possible only in a clinic and it should be done under aseptic conditions. Also, I cannot prescribe medications online. To prevent the symptoms from worsening, consult a doctor or go to the ER.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Thank you for the advice. My only problem is that I don't have money to go to the doctor and currently do not have health insurance. Is there anything I can do at home that would rid the infection?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

It could be that the infection has not completely resolved. Have a culture and sensitivity test done to find out the correct antibiotic that the infecting organism is sensitive to and taking this medication for the required amount of days may help to clear the infection. And the pus needs to be drained completely. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
