Nose Piercing & Vertigo?

Hi everyone! I have a question and I didn't see anything similar while browsing the archives. At the beginning of October I got my nose pierced. It was done at a professional parlor and everything was clean and sanitary. I had problems with the ring being too small, so they had to readjust it only days after getting the piercing. I also had it fall out about 2 weeks later and had to put it back in (ouch!).

I've always had left-sided Meniere's symptoms (never formally diagnosed) since about 13 years old. It's never been more than ringing and slight hearing loss on that side. After about 2 weeks of having my nose ring, I got the most severe form of vertigo. I've never experienced anything like this before. It caused a lot of panic and anxiety...I had 3 attacks over the course of 3 weeks. I haven't had an attack in about a month, however, today, my nose ring fell out again. When I tried to put it back in, I got that slight nauseous / dizzy feeling again. I decided to just keep it out and let the darn thing close up.

My question is this...does anyone know if getting such a piercing can cause vertigo? I've been for every medical test you can think of an everything checks out normal. The nose piercing is the only other thing that seems to have a direct correlation. Any information would be helpful...

I also get dizzy and I get a gnawing whenever I have a nose ring on. I had suffered ear infections when I was a child but it's been decades since it's recurred. The dizziness and headache is so perturbing because my piercing healed way back in 1998. It's just crazy. I love nose pins so. :-(

Hi there,
My sister has been having the exact same experience for over last two years in episodes of vertigo setting off and when we traced back, it was the same time as when she had her piercing done on the left nostril. Its so much of a coincidence that even she suffers from the same left ear mild hearing deficiency since childhood.

But despite of all tests, medical examinations, it was always attributed to being vestibular neuronitis. However, today while I browse the net, I find your post and I went ahead and removed my sister's piercing while she is in the hospital. She hasn't had vertigo since but its only been few hours.

Did you ever find a resolution? This is a 8 year old post I realize. But hoping over hopes.

What happened with this?  Had severe onset of vertigo 2 days after nostril piercing but not sure if they are actually related!

I recently had a nose piercing and I'm suffering vertigo continually started about three days after the pierce. I started antibiotics cause I thought I had an infection and it hasn't changed.

Hi "Me." :) Most likely no one responded because no one saw your post who could tell you anything useful.

I've never heard of a piercing setting off vertigo, and it seems extremely highly unlikely. (I can't imagine how it would happen.) It must be just a coincidence.

I would think that if there WERE any connection, you would have had vertigo immediately after the piercing.

I know very well that feeling of trying to figure out, "Now WHAT could have caused me to get dizzy?" You think about EVERYTHING that you've done, eaten, etc., and you feel that there MUST be some reason, some connection... but often it turns out that you simply can't figure out any definite connection.

Sounds like a trip back to your ear doctor is in order!

Best of luck... dizziness stinks. :)
