Small Food particles stuck in back of Throat

I have had a problem for years.. I get mall particles of food that gets stuck in the back of my throat somewhere around the nasal passage area.  These are small particle of hard food like a part of a peanut shards after being chewed up.. or really small pills like 10mg lipitor (I don't know how many of the liptors have literally dissolved back there instead of my stomach)  Almost every night I have something stuck there it causes my sinus to swell in the during sleep and can sometimes get painful if it does not get dislodge.

Sometimes I can dislodge it by rattle my sinus on that side. (“snuffing in” which  drive my wife crazy)

I have seen a ENT and they find nothing. They did a Barium Swallow and gave be a "horse" pill.  It showed nothing…. But the problem is the small stuff.

This seems to be out of the ordinary and the Doctors don't have a clue. I even asked a pharmacist and he said he had never heard of people having problems with little pills only big pills..

Help.. if you have a similar problem and found someone that could help you I would appreciate the details..

Thank you so much for sharing. THIS is MY story too! I have huge tonsils and am 48 yrs old! I never needed them removed. This happens along with the occasional rice going up my nasal cavity as well, but I usually end up "SHOOTING" that out after a few tries of exhaling through my nose, or sucking in it goes back into my mouth, but usually exits my nose(both gross , I know, sorry).

But thanks for sharing!! I hope I won't have to see a doctor...

My question is, how can we prevent this from happening altogether?

Thank you very much for all the suggestions! I decided to try the shower waterfloss and it helped. The food particle came out after 3 days of trying to gargle with saline solution, coughing it out, massaging my throat, etc. etc. It was somewhat cumbersome as our waterfloss is connected to the shower head and, of course, water sprays all over and runs down your elbow. I pulled the curtain closed so only my head was in the shower area and directed the showerfloss water jet down my throat. It was uncomfortable, ticklish, and almost seemed painful as the water flow is pretty strong, but in a matter of under a minute of directing the jet on and off, the particle came out. I hope it will work every time. I will try purchasing a stand alone shower floss unit so that it's less cumbersome. Not sure if those will be as powerful and as helpful as this one was. Hope this helps. This issue came out of the blue for me in my 52nd year of life - never heard of it or experienced it before, and now it seems to be a regular occurrence. I am now peeling apples as little bits of apple skin makes the issue ever so much more painful. What a bizzare thing that appears to have come out of nowhere!

Thank you for your feedback. This will help others. The Ujjayi pranayam is described in my post of November 11, 2011.

I have the same problem, and the small food particle was stuck in my nasal for 1-2 week. And your method really works. Thank you very much.
