bad breath from nose and mouth

i've been having bad breath from my mouth and nose for about 3 months now and its really bothering me. theres no way i could hide my bad breath because it comes out from my nose too! i went to the dentist and asked him why this is happening, he says it is coming from the stomach and asked if i ever had any heartburns. im 16 and i am having frequent heartburns and whatever i eat, the smell comes out of my nose. also when i swallow the smell starts coming out of my nose even more, and it feels like i have something stuck in the back of my throat that wont go away. i started researching on it and it seems like i have acid reflux and it has reached my estophagus. then i started to take prevacids which helps acid reflux and stops relieve heartburns but it doesn't seem to work. any advice??....

I've been researching and I think the bad smell in the nose could be something called rhinolith stones they are caused by debris of food and mucous in nasal passage. It is not always caught on xray. Its a long shot but it dont hurt to ask the ENT to check right?

Hi luann, u do have to modify ur diet and lifestyle to help meds calm the acid down. See the Health Pages for more info here on MedHelp GERD forum.

Many foods like pizza, tomato in general, dairy, spices can affect reflux as can smoking, alcohol....and stress...weight changes.....clothing being too tight.

It is knowing what the root id, and knowing what to aoid to aid the healing process.

ASk ur dr about getting to a GI dr.
