Do I need Glasses for such a minor prescription?

I'm currently 18, attending art school so i am spending a lot of time in front of the computer screen and up close to my sketch book. When I saw my optometrist the Rx made a noticeable difference but I'm still not sure if I should get glasses. My friends say i probably should to prevent my eyes from getting worst since I spend so much time looking at close objects. But my parents don't think I should because they don't think glasses would make a difference.

My left eye is perfectly fine.
My right eye has a prescription of
Cylinder -.50
Axis 100

So i guess the question is: Do i need glasses? Personally I wouldn't mind wearing glasses while attending class or while doing homework.

Thanks

If you're have problems with your vision, you're right to doubt the accuracy of the prescription.  Can you get the optometrist (or better yet, his/her associate) to recheck it?  If you do get it filled, make sure the shop offers a 30-day money back guarantee.

Actually, I have trouble seeing the projection screen in class. Also, I had trouble reading the menu at a local coffee shop. This is why I'm not sure. It also causes me to doubt the accuracy of this prescription.

This prescription only benefits your optometrist.  I would not prescribe such a minor prescription unless you were having a problem.

I doubt that this Rx will make a noticeable difference to you.
