My mother (62 years of age) got a Trifocal IOL (ZEISS AT LISA) in her left eye in Dec 2020. To be honest, we simply wanted cataract gone and best vision and were okay with wearing glasses. The Doctor that we went to upsold us Trifocals and didn’t talk about the side effects.
Fast forward 3 months, the halos and glare are there but are not too bothersome (Since only one eye has Trifocal, the other cataract eye maybe balances it out (Not too sure). Mother also doesn’t drive. She can read close up as well as see car number plates amongst other things far away. She can even see the moon spots. However, the sharpness is not there in the text.
Mother currently has severe dry eyes, some amount of positive dysphotopsia and sees the edge of the lens too. What would you recommend for the second eye:
1. Trifocal IOL – Will this increase halos and glare? Does contrast loss make the overall vision dim? As the age increases, will there be more contrast loss?
2. Monofocal IOL – Is the combination of Trifocal + Monofocal possible and safe?
