Shimmering and scotoma when blinking sound familiar?

Hello,

About 11 days ago I started noticing that I was "seeing stars" in my left eye on bright computer screens. It would come in and out when I would go from dark to light. This shimmering became more apparent and started staying. This was when I called the eye doc. I then noticed that I was developing a small "dot" just to the left of my vision in my left eye. I saw the optometrist and he said that there was nothing apparent with my retina, or inside of my eye. He referred me to a neurologist after sending me to an urgent care (because I do not have a primary care atm due to moving) to make sure I wasn't having a stroke.

Over the past few days I have noticed
- that I have floaters in that eye versus the right eye
- the scotoma has gotten a little bit bigger and shimmers slightly when it starts to go away
- the shimmering is still there
- I notice small streaks of light on the very edge of my vision when I blink fast sometimes

I have a history of migraines, and normally a symptom is for my left eye to hurt... The neurologist yesterday made me do a few stroke tests again, and ordered an MRI for this morning. I am awaiting a results, but am getting nervous. Has anyone had anything like this, or anyone know what is up?

Your history is extremely common and generally are visual symptoms related to migraine variants.  Migraines change for many people through out life. In women often get worse with pregnancy, birth control pills, estrogens, etc. Finish your work with the neurologist. I would suggest you see an Eye MD ophthalmologist. If you have a neuro-ophthalmologist in your area so much the better. Your problems are complex enough I think you need an eye MD not an optometrist, non-MD
