what is the little red lump in the corner of the eye

hi

what is the red little lump in the corner of each eye and what does it do? They are in the corner of your eyes on the nose side corner. I think one of mine feels slightly uncomfortable but there is not pus or anything I can see. I might be being paranoid though. The rest of the eye looks normal.

That "thing" is called the caruncle and it doesn't really do anything. It is a vestigeal third eyelid/nictating membrane (present in some lower animal/reptiles).  There is a fold of conjjuctiva there also called the plica semilunaris, it doesn't do anything either.

can cold weather make the eye dry? I have been in a hot climate for 6 months and am now in UK where it is very cold.
