IS IT MY GALLBLADDER?

I was Dx in November 2011 w/Multiple Gallstones which were noticed during an ultrasound that was done regarding another issue. My Dr. said that because I was asymptomatic there was no need for any treatment. Then on January 16, 2012 I was the driver of a truck that was involved in a serious accident in which the airbags deployed. In the accident I sustained serious whiplash, a severe concussion & a Large Hematoma on my right hip. But since the accident I've also been experiencing severe right sided chest pain that goes through to my back right shoulder blade. It actually feels like there is a knife being pushed through my right breast & out my shoulder blade. I am also having a lot of pain down my right arm, especially in the shoulder area. To add to that, I have been extremely nauseas & unable to eat w/a sharp/burning pain just below my right breast. Could the trauma of the accident possibly have aggravated the gallstones or are these symptoms related to something else & if it is most likely my gallbladder, will I need it removed?
I am very scared, so I Thank You, in advance, for your time regarding this matter.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The pain could be due to gall stones. The stones can chronically irritate the gall bladder wall and cause inflammation and pain. Also, this chronic irritation is a predisposing cause for gall bladder cancer. If the stone is placed in the neck of the gall bladder, it can cause retention of bile, with stasis and consequent infection. So, the best option would be to have an elective gall bladder removal.

But if the pain is aggravated with work or exercise then it could be due to cardiac pain. But when in doubt always best to have it checked. So please consult your primary care physician who may ask for an EKG or a treadmill test to rule out a cardiac cause for the pain.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hi .. you should be certain your doctor is aware of these symptoms .. especially anything with pain radiating down your arm in my opinion.

Not sure what to say except you never do know if the accident may have jarred/moved some of the stones around .. I would think it's totally possible but I'm just a patient and not a medical professional.

Please keep us posted!
