Cut in bile duct after ERCP

My neighbor just had gallbladder surgery but a stone was left in bile duct.  The surgeon performed ERCP but it was unsuccessful.  He made a cut in bile duct to help release stone.   My neighbor would like to know if the bile duct cut the surgeon made will cause problems or complications ??

I sure hope this was the correct thing to do.  The reason I am worried because I read that damage to the bile duct can cause complications.  However, maybe this isn't considered a complication because of the way it was performed.  Thanks for your response.

Hopefully it will help. Usually before the cut is made the ERCP is done with a component called manometry which measures the pressures in the common bile duct or at the sphincter. If the pressures are raised, the muscle is cut.

But the surgeon may have felt this was the best option.
