Gastric emptying scan

I had an EGS done today. After the test was done the lab technician gave me a quick peak at the results. He showed me a picture of the scan and said, "You're at 422 minutes," I asked him what this meant. He said that my Dr. would discuss the results with me. Is anyone familiar with an EGS result? I am wondering if this is normal and/or abnormal.

They had me eat a piece a toast with some peanut butter because I have a hard time eating eggs. In it they injected the radioactive material. Still, 422 minutes seemed rather high compare to the 78 minutes of the egg. Thanks so much for the information!

There are several different measurements that are considered normal, depending on the radioactive material and solid meal used. The value is expressed as a percentage of emptying over a period of time. For a technetium-filled egg sandwich for example, a normal emptying is 78 minutes for half the material to leave the stomach, with a variation of 11 minutes either way.
