I have been referred to a surgeon in Cinncinnatti for a complete pancreas removal "Whipple", and an Islett Cell Transplant. This surgery is scheduled for april 24th and I am very upset about it and do not know what to do. I have had chronic pancreatitus for 6 years, and it has gradually gotten worse causing me to have to quit work two years ago. Pseudocysts were found in my pancreas 6 years ago, and were removed surgically, in which it took 18 months to get over. I made ot back to work for three years, and then my pancreas gradually became worse. I have read that an Islett Cell transplant is experimental, and have been told by my surgeon that they hope that they can draw enough cells from my pancreas for the transplant, but am not sure due to the previous surgery. Are there anyone out there that has had their pancreas removed along with the Islett cell transplant that can give me some advice. I have spoken with 5 patients that my surgeon provided for me to speak with, but only one said that they would have it done again, but he was on more pain meds, and is less active since the procedure from two years ago. Please I need someones advice because I do not know what to do, or what the alternatives will be if I don't have this surgery done. I have been on methdone for 4 years, and have taken all of the pancreas pills that are out there. To no avail. My ducts are blocked, and doctors attempted to put in stents, and worked on me for two and ahalf hours to no avail. I really do not know what to do, and am now on depression meds as well as everything else. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Petie
