What's going on ?

Hi everyone,

I am writing this on behalf of a family member who suffers from diverticulosis. Today he says he's in a lot
of pain. He describes it as a dull pain. I would definitely describe this as an attack. A few minutes ago, he
was doubled over in past. Often these attacks are gas pains. This time he says he doesn't know what's
going on. He's a male in his mid sixties and has weight issues. I'm really at a loss what to do for him to
make him feel better. I'm bringing him water, that's it.  He hasn't had any lunch, but we went out for
breakfast. He had boiled eggs, brown toast (2 slices) home fries and one slice of tomato. I'd like to help
him, but I don't know what to do for him, what to give him etc. I would really appreciate some advice
or suggestions for any Medhelp member who has this condition or the advice of a doctor on the site.
Thank you in advance. Eve :)

Hi there,
The symptoms of diverticulosis can vary from no pain to periods of pain. There is diarrhea, cramps, abdominal pain with or without fever. A person suffering from this condition should include fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains in the diet which are high in fiber. Drinking plenty of fluids and daily exercise may help. He should avoid straining at stools and take fiber supplements. It is suggested to consult a doctor and get his doubts clarified. I sincerely hope it helps.
Best wishes and regards!
