Can you pull a muscle in your abdomen?

I was stretching and felt like I pulled a muscle in my upper abdomen. It was painful. It's the same feeling as when you pull a muscle anywhere else in your body only once I pulled it the pain never went away and there is also a twisted feeling there. Now it is swollen around where the pain/twisted feeling is. What could this be?

Yes, you absolutely can.  All those muscles are just like any other muscle in your body.  Try ice pack and ibuprofen.  Hope it feels better soon. If not, speak to your doctor to be safe.

Thanks. I went to a doctor and got examined and he diagnosed it as an abdominal muscle strain. The only thing is my upper abdomen in my mid section and on the left side near my ribs is still severely swollen and the ice pack/ ibueprofen is not taking the swelling down.  It's been like this for days. Shouldn't the swelling have went done by now? Maybe I should go to another doctor for a second opinion.
That does seem like a while to wait for that to go down.  Never hurts to get rechecked.  I'm sure this hurts like a mother though . . .  I've had super sore ab muscles and it is so painful!!!  Let us know how you are doing!
