I woke up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. When I laid back down, I realized the right side of my face for extremely sore. I got up and looked in the mirror. The skin on the lower part of my right cheek (about 2 cm long and 1 cm wide) looked textured (as if I had fallen asleep with my face laid on a cotton sweater), red, and had what first appeared to be a small bump that was a little darker in color than the rest of the red patch. However, when I touched the "bump" it was flat. I figured I must have done something in my sleep, so I put tea tree oil on the spot and laid back down (on the other side). When I woke this morning, the spot looked like a burn. As soon as I touched it, the skin that was where the "bump" was peeled off leaving pink skin tissue exposed. The rest of the skin around it was still textured (like very small wrinkles) and a darker, brownish-red color (I am African American). Also, it looked really thin; it looked like the entire thing would peel off if I washed my face with a face towel. I carefully washed my face and applied Neosporin to the affected area. 10 minutes later, I realized the open part was leaking a clear fluid. It is has now been 5 hours since this morning. The part that pealed has turned a yellowish color and the area around it is still a darker brownish-red (like a bruise). The liquid it was leaking has formed a semi-scab; however, when it is disrupted (like when I smile), it leaks again. I looked up spider bites (the brown recluse lives in my state), but I do not have any of those symptoms. There is no itching. I only feel pain if I touch it and sometimes if I smile too wide. Does anyone have experience with something like this? If so, what caused it and what should I do?
