Is it possible to reuse a butterfly needle?

I have been having some anxiety over my last experience with blood draw. My 3 year old had to have a blood test and while I tried to calm her down, I forgot to pay attention to the whole process of opening a fresh needle and all that. So, my question is : is it even physically possible to reuse a butterfly needle. Are there some safety devices preventing that? I only saw the whole thing when it was already filled with blood. There was a terrible case when those butterfly needles were rinsed and reused back in 99. I just need some reassurance that it is not possible to do that even if someone was really negligent.

I am sure the nurse knows to draw blood using a fresh needle, so no need for you to worry. Try to forget about it because nothing bad happened.

The phlebotomist should open a new syringe in front of you........in most high quality labs it is protocol. If the needles is already opened and laying on the tray or table, it is your right to ask that another needled be opened in your presence. If they refuse, find another lab. But I doubt you will have to. You are dealing with highly trained professionals.
