Relationship with person of unknown status

Hello,

I have been having a romantic relationship with a person of unknown HIV status.

We have talked something about it, she told me she did the test some time ago and it was negative.

She is a calm, reasonable person, weighs her risks and everything, but we all know that is not an insurance policy as sex makes you do things you shouldnt.

I believe she had some involvement before we started and that maybe in some occasion she did not use condoms (after the HIV negative test).

She was very adamant about using condoms in the beginning but we started to have sex without it, so I admit same could have happened before.

I have been with her for a month and the biggest alarm for me was when we had sex and she was with her period (we only noticed after sex). We had sex in the early stages of her period (some blood was on my leg) and then after her period pass (but still had some dry blood).

What are my overall chances of:

1. She having HIV ;

2. Me having contracted it.

Thank you very much in advance

When you say relationship with someone of 'unknown' status you are talking about someone you are dating.  That doesn't make her unknown.  She's a regular person living a regular life.  Like you.  She's as much at risk from having sex with you as an 'unknown person' as you are with her.  Think about that.  Since you are both in a relationship, you can suggest you go for STD testing/HIV testing as a routine thing.  I would not overly worry but since you are, both of you get tested.  Then she can feel confident you aren't giving anything to her either.

Thank you for your answer.

I was wondering if having sex during early and late stages of period increases the risk.

And as I am circumcised, how would that decrease the risks.

I have talked with her and she had unprotected sex after the HIV negative test done some years ago.
She referred it was due to other partner resistance to use condom, which scared me.
I am also resistant to use condoms, but as I said I have been in monogamous relationships.

I understand your point and of course I feel a little bit arrogant, specially cause it is more my fault we are not using condoms, but being circumcised, I feel almost nothing with condoms.

I understand where you are coming from, but I am pretty confident I did not get it before, as I was tested negative twice and after that had two monogamous relationships with people I trust and one was tested HIV negative and the other never had sex without condom, other than me.

I have been feeling some numbness on feet, so I scare a little. But just that, no other symptoms.

Thanks for your help.

Only a test can provide the answer. If she is negative then you are too, provided you didn't have any other risk encounters. Symptoms can't prove anything nor can probabilities, so you need to stop examining your body for them.
Any test is conclusive after 3 months, so if you have been with her for 3 months she can test now or else a duo is conclusive after 28 days.
