Can anyone PLEASE help me?

I just want to know if the window periods you mention here for ELISA tests (older generations) apply worldwide. I just want to know cause I live in mexico and my doctor adviced me to test at 6 MONTHS. I asked him why no testing at three, and he said the guidelines said ony a 6 month test was conclusive.

My inquiry is, Was my doctor right?? are tests used in Mexico (or anywhere outside the US) older and therefore less accurate than the average 2nd or 3rd generation ELISA tests used in the US?? Or can I test at 3 months and be at ease with my results??? Please be as specific as you can with your answers.

Well I am from the Dominican Republic, and must say that the quality of HIV test available here is very good! and most top labs in here use Third or even fourth generation tests, so I think it is basically the same in Mexico and most Latin America as well!
