Does an HIV blood test detect all different types?

Hi, I recently got tested for HIV and the results came back positive for Chlamydia. I then took the prescribed medicine, so it should be gone. But I don't get retested for a couple more weeks. I was wondering if a typical HIV blood test detects all types, including AIDS?

Why don't you ask the lab?

Hi curlygirl - it sounds like the clinic or doctor's office didn't do a good job of explaining to you what tests they were doing, and what the results were.

I think a good place to start is to call the clinic or doctor's office where you had testing and ask them exactly what diseases they tested for.  That will help us help you.

Your question doesn't make any sense. An HIV test will not detect chlamydia. An HIV test will only detect HIV. Furthermore, you don't test for AIDS because AIDS is not the virus, it's the syndrome that occurs after one has been infected with HIV and is dying from complications of HIV.
