How effective is PEP after possible exposure?

Good day.

I am a receptive homosexual. And 3 months ago I had a minor exposure with a man of unknown status. Within in 72 hrs I managed to get to the doc and he prescribed PEP for me. I took it for 28 days and just a few days ago I tested HIV negative.

Now here is what is worrying me, during this last month I slept with my new partner for the 1st and only time. The condom broke and he says it broke outside me while he was pulling it back. We immediately used a new one and that one did not break. So four weeks later, I start developing ARS like symptoms. I had a fever for 6 days, a sore throat (pain equivalent to that of tonsillitis) for 4 days. I have a swollen node on my groin area, a few red blotches on my nose, torso and two on my scrotum. I also have a cyst on my anus as big as a been which makes it difficult for waste excretion. So upon realizing all of this, I dragged my partner to the nearest testing station where I tested negative and he tested HIV positive. He says the last time he had unprotected sex was with his receptive ex a few months ago, which was frequent. It is day 7 now of my ARS phase and I am left with a low grade fever and extremely dry mouth as everything else has disappeared 2-3 days ago.

So my question to you is, do you think I might've contracted the virus, please assess my risk given the fact that I have taken PEP 3 months prior due to a different exposure.
Also, what would happen if I were to begin PEP now, four weeks post exposure?

Good to hear. And just remember in the future. No sex without testing. Good luck!

Thank you. I went to my GP today and he also reckons that my negative results at 30 days post exposure are a good indication.

Pepis only effective within 72 hours of exposure. It would be prudent to test with a duo test at 28 days post exposure. I am not judging you but anal sex among msm is the highest risk for HIV. If you test negative 28 days post exposure your lucky. After that please test with every new partner before things get intimate. I hope all will go well with you.
