Thank you
I plan to get tested just to get rid of the one what-if from lurking my mind, but now im really not stressing on it any more ^_^
I'm with uniquelymen on this one. Your risk is extremely small. The fact of the matter is even if your partner had HIV, and odds are that he did not, but even if he did - the mouth is a highly inhospitable environment for HIV. There are enzymes in your mouth that inhibit and degrade the virus.
Transmission of HIV from oral sex is a contentous topic, but the evidence shows that it is either a very rare occurence or never happens at all. The CDC and Health Canada state that factors that increase your risk include, bleeding gums while performing oral, very major ulcers that have weakened the gum lining (bleeding), and performing oral sex to completion (ejaculate contamination of mouth). Even if the person had it, oral sex with ejaculation is estimated to have a risk of contraction of 1 in 10 000. That's equal to giving a blowjob to an infected partner everyday for 27 and a half years, and only being infected once (for an idea of how low the risk is).
In the future, I suggest asking your partner about their HIV and STD status prior to having sex with them. Also, you may choose that even though the risk is extremely tiny (and some say non-existent), you might feel more comfortable performing oral sex with a condom.
If you are still concerned (which you shouldn't be), but if you are, feel free to get a test at 6 weeks. A test at this time should be considered conclusive for all intents and purposes.
Hi there,
You are not at risk. Your risk at best is remotely low (theory only). You do not need to test for HIV for this incident itself.
I recommend all sexually active person to have full STD screening at least once or twice a year.
Cheers!
