Oral HIV or something different?

I have a buddy who identifies as being primarily straight, but did inform me of a first time gay encounter with a gay man out of curiousity.  He reports that the sex consisted of his providing oral service to him...both oral-anal and fellatio. The man did ejaculate in his mouth, which he reported he swallowed.  My buddy reports to me that 2 days after the fact that he noticed that the tissue at the back of his throat was a mix of red and pale coloration (no drainage) with the beginning of the veins at the back of his throat becoming more red/pronounced.  All of this was limited to the back of his throat only.  But by Day 4, redness was noted more forward now out of the back of his throat, especially on the side folds at the back of his mouth and at his uvula.  The veins at the back of his throat were even more red by then and the surrounding tissues at the back of the throat took on more of a pale appearance as the veins became redder.  Again, no drainage.  Also at Day 4, he began having red dots on the top of his palate, which continued to spread forward, more with each passing day.  By Day 5, the inside of his cheeks took on a more pinker hue than usual.  He went to the Dr on Day 4, and the Dr took a throat culture and did an HIV test.  He also gave him Nystatin to swish and spit.  The throat culture came back showing heavy growth, but normal. The HIV test was negative.  My buddy reports absolutely no sore throat or drainage or fevers or diarrhea or flu like symtoms.  It is now Day 10 and he has the same oral symptoms...no change from what I have just described...and without any other symptoms.  He plans to see the Dr again in 2 days and plans to take the HIV test again in 3 months.  Is it HIV that he contracted?  If not, what else could it be and/or what else should he be tested for?  I'm worried about him.

Well as far as what he has, he should see a doctor.  The oral is not so much a concern, the anal if it was unprotected anal is a concern, for HIV he should get an std test (because the guy did ejaculate in his mouth), if the anal sex was unprotected then he should as well get  an HIV test in 3 months.  Chances are he will be negative, but unprotected sex should = getting tested for hiv.  If he had protected anal sex, meaning with a condom, he should not concern himself with HIV, he definately had no risk then.

The symptoms are not HIV related because they are too early.
