You never had an exposure.
Thanks Teak. I got my results for Chlamydia/Gonnrea today. I tested negative for them. I read that they too are transmitted by sexual intercourse. I still have not got my hiv test results yet. Does this result reduce my chances of contracting hiv?
At no time were you ever at risk of contracting HIV nor do you need testing for HIV.
A negative antibody/antigen at four or more weeks may exclude hiv-1 infection, however it is recommended to test also at 12 weeks/3months to exclude hiv-2 infection.
However as you had protected sex, as HowardH advised you, you were not at risk.
Condom breakages are obvious. They're designed in a way that if they fail/break they do catastrophically.
I misread -- thought you had UNprotected sex. You weren't at risk.
Depending on where this occurred and details about your partner (sex worker? drug user?) you miight not be at risk at all. One estimate often quoted on the HIV expert forum was 1 chance in 1,000 for unprotected vaginal sex, if the woman has HIV.
Your doctor probably is suggesting a DNA or RNA test. I think it would be about 80% reliable at 7 days; probably better (90-95%) at 10 days. A duo test (antibody+antigen) will be conclusive at 1 month.
