Sex Toy

Dear experts,

I would like to ask you something regarding the use of sex toys. I read online, the answers were kind of confusing. Some say sharing sex toys is a risk, but some say the risk is neglectable. What would be the real risks of sharing sex toys? Is it enough to wash the toy with soap and warm water even if it has been used by someone else before?

I also read that even if the sex toy is used by someone else and left there for a period of time, there is still no risk, because HIV dies in few minutes outside the body. Is the statement correct in this situation? Thank you very much!

That is correct.  A sex toy left sitting exposed to air is no risk.  Air inactivates the virus. The only ways that adults get HIV is to have unprotected vaginal or anal sex or to share IV needles to inject drugs.  If you are using sex toys that are shared, well, yes. wash them. Not a bad idea to wash them after use in general.  That's just cleanliness.

Thank you for your reply.

If the sex toy is shared, does it pose any risk of getting HIV? Since you mentioned the only two ways that an adult can get HIV, I'm not sure if sharing will add more risks in terms of HIV trasmission.  Thank you.
Reread about "only". Since sharing sex toys was not listed, it is obvious that it is not a risk.
Thank you very much, experts. I do not worry much anymore. Now I understand clearly how should I protect myself from HIV.
There is no risk all unless there is immediate sequence between partners and then it is only theoretical. What you describe is no risk.  Remember that air inactivates the virus so you have NO need to worry.  Take care.
