What are my chances?

So, here is the story. I am female. I work in development in a small Eastern European Country (I am not from here) where HIV is not that prevalent. I got a bit tipsy one night and had sex with my friend (from this country.) The sex was unprotected, but it literally lasted 10 seconds and he did not ejaculate. I came to my senses and stopped it. We talked and he has not been tested, though I had been and know I was clean. I am signed up to get tested next week, but I would like to know what you all think about my risk. I admit, I am not as educated as I should be about the disease as I have not had many partners and am always extremely careful. I guess my question is what is my actual risk, and has there ever been a case of  anyone contracting the disease after such a short exposure (if he is, in fact, positive?) Anyone able to help me out? Thanks!

A risk is a risk...and unprotected sex is a risk.  Yes, the brevity of the situation is a good thing...but in no way a guaruntee.  Have a standard HIV antibody test at 3 months post exposure for a conclusive result.

ryn21....."But rest assured--you didn't catch HIV from this exposure. "

Please do not post inaccurate info on this forum.  This poster DID have a risk, albeit a low one.  You cannot make statements like you made above.

From what you've written, I'm surprised anyone would suggest getting tested at all, as your particular encounter carries virtually no risk.  Here's the breakdown, as I'm sure you may have read through numerous forum posts:

1 in 1000~2000 chance for risk of exposure from unprotected m/f vaginal intercourse.
~0% risk of transmission from cunnlingus/oral sex.
HIV testing ~100% accuracy at approximately 6 weeks.

Most clinics have quick response HIV testing.  Call your local office for details.  But rest assured--you didn't catch HIV from this exposure.

Take care :)
