Worried

I did a HIV test at 25 days post exposure, it came back negative. I know 3 months is only conclusive, but how accurate is it at 25 days?

* Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusively negative results or a no-risk situation will be based upon the criteria established by MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
    * After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
    * Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
    * Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Thanks Teak. I am a medical student.I am in totally paranoid after the incident. Even though i know condom is effective in preventing HIV transmisiion. I am really regret for what i did.
I will wait and repeat my Herpes IGG test. The herpes equivocal results are really a nightmare for me.

Thanks interestedparty71 for your patience.

You were not advised to retest for HIV in the Herpes Forum.

the only testing you had done that was accurate was chlamydia and gonorrhea. all your other std testing was done too early.

you need to wait and repeat your herpes igg blood testing anytime after 3 months post encounter.

all hiv related questions need asked in the hiv forum.

You are right that HSV does increase the risk, but only in situations where you would already be at some risk of transmission. Protected sex + oral sex is a no risk exposure. You need to stop worrying about HIV.

Thanks for your reply.
The HSV-1 and 2 results really bother me. And hence increase my paranoid to HIV. Sorry for bringing up HSV issues here. I also posted it in Herpes community. Suggested to do retest.

You didnt have a risk. HIV is not transmitted by penetrative sex when a condom is used correctly, and is not transmitted by oral sex at all, protected or unprotected. You do not need further testing.

I am living in Malaysia. The test just showing ELISA. I believe it was an antibody test only. =(

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. My exposure was protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex with a prostitute. I am so worried because i did a
full STD test recently. Results all negative except for HSV-1 and 2. Both are equivocal with 396 units/ml and 273 unit/ml respectively. This further made me feared as HSV increases the chances of HIV transmission. It was my first time and I am living in fear now. I feel so depressed and sorry to my family and girlfriend.

I would advise that you take a DUO test, if you have not already - your result can be considered conclusive at the 12 week mark - however a negative result before the 12 week mark is always encouraging.

If it was a DUO/COMBO it was very accurate. If it was just an antibody test then it is around 90% at 25 days. What exposure?
