Shooting Chest pains- please help!

I've been to the Dr. several times for what started out as a 'sore' spot on my chest on the left side.  It felt almost like a bruise, when pushed on it was very sore.  This started last summer, so it's been a year.  I'm very small chested, so both my doctor and I checked for lumps, but found none.  I went in for an ultrasound, but they found nothing.  The soreness comes and goes.  Now there are shooting pains on the same side (left side), but it doesn't change with physical activity, or when I breathe in or out.  My dr. doesn't even suggest that it could be a 'chest' or 'heart' thing, she keeps acting like it's just a 'breast' thing.  I'm adopted and have no clue what my family history is, so I'm very nervous that it could be my heart.  My left arm gets "tired" a lot- but not usually with pain.  I am left handed, however, so I usually associate the tireness with that.  I had heart palpitations (apparently thyroid) when I was pregnant, and occasionally have them, but no thyroid issues since pregnancy (3 years ago).  I'm just so frustrated- last time she said- "oh, it's just rib cage pain- here's some naproxen"  I just don't feel right about this, but have no clue what direction to go, or what it could even possibly be.
Anything can help- please.

Hello

It is always very disturbing when you know you have something amiss with your body but don't quite know how to explain it to another person.

I agree with chatter ally, that you are entitled to get a second opinion and perhaps this is what you should do.  It is your right.

However,I know that the thyroid can cause palpitations along side other symptoms and it would not hurt to have this checked out also.  What have you got to lose. What does it matter if you end up with a clean bill health.  What is important is you will have peace of mind.  I say go for it and good luck.

Thanks.  I haven't had any injury.  The pain is a bit confusing- it's sore in one spot, but there are shooting pains also...I just want to make sure I'm ok!  I think my dr. thinks I want to make something out of nothing- but I feel like she could be making nothing out of something.
No, I haven't had a chest x-ray.
Since the shooting pains are sort of separate from the sore spot, is there a possibility it could be unrelated?

What you have described doesn't sound like a cardiac issue.  Did you have any type of injury to the chest or perhaps cough so hard that you may have torn a muscle?  Sometimes I hit myself and forget about it until I am sore.  Even with pluerisy, it would hurt when deep breaths are taken and I even felt it if I would bend over.  Have you had a chest x-ray lately?  Cardiac chest pain does come and go, but it is not sore to the touch.  It's usually felt in the center of the chest. I know how stressful this can be, so maybe you could get a second opinion to ease your mind.  Take care, Ally
