About EPSRFA

Hi I'm Neelima. My father is 62 yrs old. He is recently admitted in the hospital with fluctuations in heartbeat. His heart beat suddenly increased to 201 and within some time it reduced to 48. So he's taken into emergency ward. After that he became normal and his pulse was around 58-64 now.  He also has a high BP. He has undergone with ECG,2D-echo and angiogram in which the doctors said that everything was ok there are no blockages. Now they have further said to have an EPSRFA test to be done after 10 days.
My main question arises here
1)Why are the carrying on with that test when all other reports say its clear?
2) Is is safe or harmful?
3) After this test will the fluctuation may comedown?
4) Is there any increase in the fluctuations after this test?
5) Why cant they carry the test then only instead of waiting 10 days?

Please help me with this answers. Now a days he is talking more loudly and getting more excited. Appreciate your help.
Thanks & Regards
Neelima Vardhanapu

Hi, your father is having a rhythm disturbance, an arrhythmia and doctors are trying to correct that. This may not be picked up by ECG,2D-echo and angiography. During the EPS, the electrical behavior of the heart that is responsible for controlling your heartbeat is recorded by placing conducting wires. Radiofrequency ablation, RFA, is a treatment that uses electrical energy to destroy tissues in the heart that are causing rhythm disturbances. This should help to restore his rhythm. Please clear all your doubts with your doctor before the procedure. Good luck.
