One thing that I don't think anyone has mentioned is that crisps (or chips as we call them) typically contain a significant amount of MSG. MSG is know to contribute to tachycardia and palpitations in people susceptible to arrhythmia. I typically stay away from MSG foods such as some chinese foods and crisps.
I agree absolutely with what you say about smaller bland meals; but I find it confusing in my case because what I can eat today may well be not what I can eat tomorrow. It seems to constantly change. I saw my GP today for reassurance and got it, I have to wait essentially for a month to see the cardio and in the meantime call the paramedics if the bigeminy kicks off. I have never experienced anything like the terror of every other beat being a PVC. Last night I had chest pain, light-headedness, blurred vision, disorientation, I had to sit and really give myself a good talking to ! Soemtimes it works ! Reading your post I am humbled by how much you are coping with, I have spoken to people in my clinic who have had classic catheterisations ( what we call them here ) and it has taken them so long to recover and not without having a new set of symptoms presented to them while they do. I have had PVC's and all sorts of other abherrations of rhythm since my daughter was born prematurely 21 years ago. I had a cardiac arrest at her delivery and arrythmia ever since. It seems to be changing it's style as I get older and I don't like it !!! I admire you tremendously for what you are living with and I shall go and give my daughter a hug and tell her about you. Nikki is terminally ill with respiratory failure now and I have been looking after her and travelling wth her on her journey for five years .I realise my tired and sad heart is coping as best it can with what is happening to us here, as far as my UK cardio goes, he is offering me a REveal device to try and diagnose definitively what is going on for me. I was worried because they implant it in the chest wall, after what you have had I am really am ashamed I am worried at all.How did this all start for you ?
Kind wishes. Julie.
Symptoms of a hiatal hernia can be a number of things, usually acid reflux, tummy pains after eating, chest pains that mimic a heart attack, heart beat irregularities. Lots of folks that have stress have them. I have a mild one, some really have bad problems with theirs.
My symptoms seem to increase when I eat spicy foods or overeat. I have tried eating smaller meals and more bland and it helps a little, but I have extreme symptoms all day long so changing your eating/drinking (too much liquid of any type does the same thing)this may help decrease your episodes
What a relief to know I will be seeing my GP at 5 this afternoon ( snow permitting ). I will post after I have been. Usually they won't intervene with anything, they leave that to the hospital, but I have a month to wait which seems ages ! Sassylassie, I am not sure if I may have a hiatus hernia, what are the symptoms ? And GERD, I don't think I have anything like that. I think it is more what is in the food, also if it's hot and certainly if I eat too big a meal. I am so much better if I stay empty and just drink water. I had four PVC free days last week doing just that, but then I am starving and head for the snack food and Dutch cheese which screams preservative. Can't seem to win. My heart is quiet just now so trying to get my daughter's care done while I can and am too tired as that is usually when these things kick off. Its's funny isn't it how I am much better if I don't eat and some folk have to eat to keep electrolytes good or else the flutters start ? Weird. Any break from them is welcome today. Thanks for the reassurances, it made so much of a difference last night when I was so scared and dizzy.
Kindest wishes. Julie.
This could be stress related. Also, I am not what "crispies" are, but, if you have a hiatal hernia or type of GERD, this might also be the reason for the extra PVC's. You see, having a hiatal hernia can cause the food to sometimes be pushed up into the diaphragm, thus, causing the flutters. Lettuce, and any rough food or hard to digest food can cause a flare up. I know, I have one and I have to be careful of what I eat and how much, or else, I will have the "floppy" visitors.
At any rate, you should probably call your physician and let him know what is going on, especially if this is sort of a new problem.
Good luck and try to relax the best you can, easier said than done, for sure. I love snow, so watch it and think how cozy it is.
Huggers
It more than likely was brought on by stress or anixety rather than the crisps. I myself are having the same problem for the past 2 days. I call them episodes and usually they are a few hours but looks like its going to be a few days. I dont worry about them killing me any longer but I get very irrated by them and that of course stresses me out. Try and relax, watch the snow, drink something warm and non-caffeine and try to just enjoy the day.
Hi Julie...
Sorry to hear how your day has gone downhill for you! What exactly is in this snack "crisps"? Is it like a potato chip?
Do you currently take any medication to relieve your symptoms? Have you put a call into your Dr to discuss your current situation?
