Hello, about 2 years ago, during a volleyball game I dove so hard a couple of times that I kept knocking the wind out of myself. I dive pretty violently so my parents and I didn't think anything of it. One of the times I could never catch my breath and my cheeks turned blueish grey. For the rest of the season, my chest hurt and I knocked the wind out of myself every time I dove, even if it wasn't hard. I am also able to push on the bottom of my left ribs and have it click like a button. Over time we figured it would just go away so I never went to the doctor. News flash, it didn't and it has gotten worse. I am now 18 and play collegiate volleyball. I can't lift weights or go through a practice without not being able to breathe. I cannot do any rotations without being able to breathe. Coughing, sneezing, hiccuping, laying on my stomach, and taking deep breaths cause pain. When I lay on my right side, my chest usually clicks when I breathe. My chest always feels super tight and like I am being stabbed and I now experience pain in my arms occasionally (kind of by my collar bones). I have been to an orthopedic doctor multiple times, he ran a bone scan, x-rays, MRI, blood tests and all came back pretty normal. He said it appeared I had fractured of on my ribs close to my cartilage that never healed right and there was calcification throughout my left side ribs. We have tried topical medication, anti-inflammatory medications, oral steroids, steroid injections, ice, stem, heat, time off and nothing has seemed to help. Recently I have noticed my heart rate being elevated a lot of the time. When I have worked out it has gotten all the way up to 211 and laying in bed it is around 85. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it may be? How to deal with this? Am I alone? I am a freshman and I am afraid I won't be able to play all four years if it doesn't get any better.
