That is what I was told, that the neuropathy could be due to "nicking" a nerve with the catheter. The doctors also said it could go away in a couple of weeks, or a couple of months, or even up to a year. My ablation was done on 1/23/08.
I was wondering what you meant by "neuropathy." I did have zinging pain in my right thigh after my first ablation. Mostly it hurt to sit, must have been putting more pressure on the groin puncture. The only thing I can figure is that while they were wiggling the catheter around, they must have bruised a nerve. It took mine a couple of months to go away. When I sat, I had to stretch my leg way out (only helped a little) and walking just caused more pain. But. . . it did go away.
I'm glad to hear the ablation was a success at treating the afib/flutter. Maybe the neuropathy is kind of a common side effect since the EP says it's a "waiting game". Have you tried posting your question on the Ask an Expert (rhythm) forum? They only take a couple of questions (free) per day, but it's worth a try since you could get the doctor's opinion. How long are you supposed to wait it out? Are you able to walk? How you are good as new very shortly!
Oh....and........WELCOME to the Heart Forums!!

My EP and the EP who did the ablation are both aware of the neuropathy. I was told it is a "waiting game" and in time it will go away. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? My ablation in terms of my a-fib and a-flutter is so far a success, however I do not have any feeling on the outter side of my right thigh from the top of the thigh to almost the knee.
I have had two RFAs and no neuropathy. Have you contacted your EP?
