I know the answer on this one !!!!!

Ok after a recent discussion with a family member she is saying that you cant study to be a dr,nurse, paramedic or anything related to the medical field if you have hep C.I told her she was wrong that there were dr"s,nurses and paramedics everywhere that have hep C,you just dont know it.Ignorance about this disease is just overwhelming to me! I need some input on this so I can make her understand she is not right on this one!!!!! thx cindy

The author of that old song has a new album that sort of encapsulates what you just said "So Beautiful or So What."

I wouldn't waste too much time trying to convince someone about the facts of HCV. Does it really matter what anyone else thinks? It doesn't really affect them. It is us who are infected and ill from this disease that need to be educated about our illness so we know what our options are.

Obviously this person is ignorant about basic medical standard practices. Doesn't it seem logical that medical personnel have the same diseases and conditions the rest of the population has? If not, maybe I should become a "dr,nurse, paramedic or anything related to the medical field" so I can cure my chronic hep C and ESLD. I used to work for a pharma company. Does that count as "anything related to the medical field. I would think it would especially as we developed and marketed meds for transplant patients. Unfortunately that didn't cure my hepatitis C, kidney stones or advanced fibrosis. Gee, I wonder what I did wrong?

I figure is if someone wants to believe the moon is made of cheese fine. As long as they don't try to impose their beliefs on me, it really doesn't matter what they think. I live by my own values and view of life. As an old song said..."A man believes what he wants to believe, and disregards the rest". or "Ignorance is bliss".

We need all the people we can get in healthcare who understand this disease and it's impact on patients lives.

You know what's true and not true. Don't let others try to rain on your parade.

Cheers!

I went to college to be a lab tech, and when I first started there were lots of forms to fill out. The only question relating to hepatitis was asking if I had had the hep B immunization... which I hadn't so I had to do the 3 shot thingy. Their concern is more about healthcare workers getting exposed by the patients. I mean really.... how the heck would we accidentally get our blood into a patient?
