"a few years ago we were giving away loads of generators in south florida".

Billy, did you visit after a recent FL hurricane and personally deliver these generators or are you thinking that FEMA was handing them out??  If so, I must have missed that memo.  They might give away bottled water and insect repellant, but generators???  Don't think so.

Unfortunately, this very significant storm surge caught many people off gaurd.  Very often the winds don't cause most of the damage in these storms, its the surge of water and waves, pounding and destroying anything in its path.   Very sad to see those affected and the chaos left behind.

I live and on the water it never occured to me to bring mine in.  I was to busy filling water containers and packing a go bag and getting all our flashlights and batteries and ID and pictures - here in the NE it's prime BBQ time still.......and I certainly didn't think the storm was going to be like THIS.

My house which is right on the Long Island Sound never even lost power while the mansions two miles down the road are gone. We were very lucky.

3000 grills buried  in the sand...whats that!!!... people didn't have enough time to bring them in....or did they just want a new grill from home owners..and what about the unnecessary pollution on the beaches and the ocean when this stuff is left outside....... now who pays for that clean up! i'll bet its us...and i'll bet theres lots of folks that just didn't prep...a few years ago we were giving away loads of generators in south florida...now what is someone in south florida thinking not having a generator to begin with?.....you can lead a man to reason but you can't make him think.....i'm not trying to make light of this storm as there have been many tragedies but with the obvious climate changes along with more and more of these weather conditions to come i think we should put more thought into the prep ...even building codes and zones....whats a little scary is the cities around the world are going to growing and growing...lots of them right on the water....and we just keep rebuilding in the same place...well...its going to snow up here so i think i'll pick the stuff up out of the yard....billy
