oral sex unprotected..is this herpes?

I know that it wasn't the wisest decision, but I gave a man unprotected oral sex about a week ago. He has had a few sex partners in the past. We have not had intercourse, just oral sex, and I swallowed his ***. About 2 days ago, i felt a burning sensation on my lower lip, and today I feel it on my upper lip. The bottom lip is extremely chapped, but I get this often during the winter season.

My question is, if blisters do not form, is it herpes? Also, do you need to have visible lesions for a diagnosis? I made an appointment with the doctor on Wednesday to be tested, mostly for piece of mind, but I need to know that it is possible to be tested without the usual herpes symptoms.

Thank you!

at this point the blood test will reflect what you had before this encounter, it won't reflect a newly acquired infection.

even just the "trauma" of performing oral can trigger issues as well as dry out the lips/chap them.  it's also that time of the year.

The problem was that lesions weren't present when I went to see my doctor. Hopefully the blood test will just tell me if I have anything at all. I really hope you are right when you say it doesnt sound like hsv1. I am currently using blistex lip ointment for the pain.

The bottom line is I had unprotected oral sex for the first time and these symptoms appeared. I've never had my lips look and feel like this before and I don't think its just a coincidence.

But I hope that it really isn't anything serious. I will definitely post once the results come in.

Thank you for your time and for posting, Grace

the blood test really isn't going to give you many answers.  It only tells you what you have and doesn't tell you if your current symptoms are herpes or not. You needed a lesion culture of the symptoms when they first appeared, not a blood test to be honest.

so what do you do now?well this could be hsv1 orally but it doesn't really sound like it. it's more likely to be just plain ole chapped lips or something else going on.

are you using any lip balm or oinments?

Thank you for your reply. I'm waiting for the blood test results. In the meantime, I have noticed tiny little bumps forming on my upper lip, as well as a few larger ones. It is also more painful. I'm extremely worried. I think that it is going to be a positive diagnosis because the dots have formed in the splotchy pattern i've seen in pictures of herpes online. I can't believe it took this long for these symptoms to appear. I'm so worried that this is indicative of how severe the whole outbreak is going to be. I also see bumps forming on the edge of my mouth, blurring my lip line.

You should ask your doctor for a type specific IgG herpes blood test.  It can take 4 months to show up on the blood test, but I'd doubt this is herpes.  Herpes doesn't go from the genitals to the mouth nearly as easily as it goes from the mouth to the genitals.
