Enlarged Liver and Positive IGM Test

I originally went to my doctor about cold sweats and he did some blood tests and discovered I had an enlarged liver. He told me that it could be a result of a virus so I asked him to test for any STDs. A full scan and everything was negative including a HSV-1 and HSV-2 IGG Test. However, my HSV combination IGM test came back with a 4.3 reading. The doctor automatically said that I have come in contact with herpes and Ill have to wait six months to determine if its 1 or 2. I guess Im in denial like anyone would be if they found out they had an STD but I originally went to the doctor for flu like symptoms. He told me the test HSV, IGM test results had nothing to do with my swollen liver but I beg to differ. Have seen the post about CMV here and am thinking this could possible be whats going on with me. Anyone else have a similar experience w/ swollen liver and positive HSV, IGM test?

Certainly an enlarged liver is cause for further work up.  You need to continue following up on this with your provider. if your provider is stumped, consult someone else.

the herpes igm test is a poor test in general and isn't recommended.  your provider is not up to date on the herpes igm tests and the false positive issue if you were told that it means that you have to have recently contracted hsv.
