HSV 1 Equivalent test result

Is it possible to have an equivalent test result when you have not been exposed to the herpes infection? Can a virgin have an equivalent test result?

Thanks a great deal. My consultant dermatologist checked my groin area under a lens and said they are not warts, over and over again. I am just scared dead! I see all kinds of things and they look like warts.

Your body did not deal with the virus, you either have it or you don't. These test results need to be assumed to be negative and you do not have genital herpes.

There is nothing you can do about HPV. Your body will expunge the virus with a couple of years.

So today I collected my test results which I took three days ago. The HSV igm 1 and 2 still read negative. The HSV igg 1 still read equivocal and the comments after that is still negative. The HSV igg 2 however now reads negative , instead of the previous equivocal result about 14 weeks ago. The lab scientist said all results are good, that maybe the equivocal changed to negative because my body has death with it. But that I am fine as the equivocal is also negative.

Now, I have no fear of HSV, but the fear of HPV warts is killing me, as about 3 weeks ago, a tiny bump developed to something that still tiny but grown and dome shaped, very smoth and sort of slightly darker than my skin.

I have seen about 8 doctors and skin care officials, including a consultant dermatologist, consultant urologist, consultant GUM, consultant physician, none said the bumps were warts, but the lab man today, who had examined me before and completely ruled out warts said this new bump is very similar to warts.

What do I do? Thanks.

Thanks. You have been helpful. Any other advice? Waiting for 12 weeks post exposure is killing me, it's just week nine and a half now. My mind is playing ticks on me, can't just take it.

If the bumps are static they are unlikely to be herpes blisters.

As mentioned, various other antibodies and proteins in the blood can react with the testing plates and give false positive and equivocal results.

It is interesting that your IgM results are negative. 3 weeks is a good time to test for IgM as a lot of people at that time will be positive for IgM if they were recently infected.

Thanks. The bumps are just the same, never change or go away since I noticed it about 6 weeks ago. No itching or pain at all. Just like a tiny pimples that seem to have nothing inside. Yes, I will do the test at12 weeks post exposure.
I looked at my result 3 weeks post exposure and it says igm for HSV 1 and 2 separately was negative and igg for HSV 1 and 2 separately was equivocal. Any idea why?

Are the bumps persistent, meaning do they never change or go away? What you described was never all that aligned to herpes. The most common symtom of herpes is nothing at all! As such if you are after peace of mind, go with the IgG antibody test for HSV1 and HSV2 at 12 to 16 weeks post the encounter.

Hi, so today I went to see my doctor and he examined me. He is my family doctor, a General Physician. I did not tell him about my exposure. He examined me and said his first guess will be that it's a shaving irritation. And to doubly confirm, I should not shave for three or four months and then shave and see if the bumps are still there. And I should avoid irritating the bump.
After I left him,ni went to another hospital in my town. A notable hospital and saw a specialist/consultant urologist/surgeon. He examined me briefly and said its definitely not herpes or warts.....that he can stake his medical certificate on his diagnosis. He said he sees warts every week and knows it, and its not herpes. He said its irritation from shaving or whatever. That I should ignore it. He said if it gets bigger or worrisome, I should come and he will cut one or two of the four bumps and send it to a pathologist, even though he knows the pathologist will find nothing like an STI. I thanked him and then left his hospital. Way do you think pls?

Thanks a lot. I wanted to know all the possibilities and this is helpful. As you advised, I will redo the test 12 weeks post exposure and report it here. Thanks a lot again.

That story puts an amazingly different perspective on things, doesn't it? Please be forthright so we can all help you with your specific circumstances.

What you describe doesn't sound much like herpes, but cannot be ruled out either. Given the situation, I would repeat the testing at 12 weeks post the encounter and assess the situation then. Pus filled sores are more likely to be bacterial or fungal. If another type of sore emerges, the clear filled ones you suggest, then get a swab immediately.

Thanks for the help. Am in Frica and I hope that ELISA test is available. I actually had a protected sex with a CSW and I was very careful, no serious skin contact and I had double condom on, and also cleaned up with a sanitizer wipe immediately after the vagina intercourse, and had a bath with an antiseptic soap less than 10 min afterwards. After about two weeks of this encounter which happened Leary in July, I noticed bumps around my pubic hair. It was tine and after like 2 days produced a tiny amount of puss and dried up and disappeared within two days. But I later had what look like a boil and after the puss came out it dried up too. Then now I have like three or four tine bumps that looks like pimples and can't say if it has a clear liquid inside or puss. It's there now for like 5 days. And again a small one that also appeared and within tow days healed up after what looks like a clear liquid or light puss came out. No itching, burning, painful urination, nothing else. Am dead worried though. I initially thought it was general warts, but a lab scientist who examined me and did the HSV igg test observed them and said it not warts, and does not think its herpes. All other sti test I did were negative. Do you think I should be worried? When from this exposure should I redo the test? Thanks.

The calibration of the tests is usually quite sensitive such that there are more false positives than false negatives. Equivocal is actually quite a low reading and a step below a low positive that would also be questionable.

You could follow up in couples of weeks and request a Herpeselect ELISA and get hold of the full results, this may shed some more light.

Yes, it was type specific with two different results and both were simply stated as equivalent, that I should retest after some months. What do you think? How does this your question change your previous answer?

Yes it is possible to have an equivocal result or even a false positive (low reading) and not be infected with the virus. In some cases, blood will contain things that bind to the testing plate that are not the correct antibodies the test is looking for.

Anyone can have an oral HSV1 infection from their youth and this will yield a positive on a blood test. HSV2 will be sexually transmitted involving genitals except in the rarest of circumstances.

Was it a type specific test with two results or just one indicating a combined IgG test? Were they both equivocal?

Thanks. I did HSV 1 and 2 igg tests and the results simply said equivalent. The doctor said i should retest after some months. My question is that is it possible to have equivalent results when I have not been exposed to oral or genital herpes virus?

Hi, if  your asking if you can test positive being a virgin then yes as could be oral. Or if youve ever rubbed and grinded naked genital to gential with someone you also could be exposed.
