I can't find any specific information about my situation and my doctor was NO help at all. I've had HSV-1 orally for most of my life. Recently I acquired HSV-1 genitally. I know pretty much all of the information out there--I've been obsessively researching for a month. What I don't know is this:
* Does this new location shed as if it is a new viral infection (generally people she's the virus more in the first year they have it)? Or, since I've always had it, does it behave as though I've had it for almost 30 years?
* Is there ANY possibility that my culture taken from my genital lesion had HSV-1 in it because I already have it? I'm wondering if it's possible I also have HSV-2. My doctor didn't seem to be concerned that this was a possibility. However, I've read it's rare to have it in two locations, so I'm concerned my genital HSV-1 is secretly HSV-2.
* I'm on anti-viral suppression (500 my Valtrex daily)--should I be one 1g instead? I don't want to transmit this!
* I've always had HSV-1 orally, and thus refrained from giving oral sex without disclosure. However, I now feel like a leper and I'm terrified to kiss anyone. WHY? That hasn't changed! Is this normal?
* Is it likely I'll be able to procreate one day without transmitting this to my potential future partner/husband? This is something I'm very concerned about.
* Is there anyone that personally knows a woman that has transmitted GHSV-1 genitally to a man? I'm very curious about an actual account of this--I can't find any!
