Not understanding....

My husband has been visually diagnosed with Herpes 2.  We have been married for 30 years and he has never had any symptoms nor have I.  About christmas time he had a red area on his penis with no pain no itching no bumps no anything just red and inflamed he was put on Keto cream for about 2-3 weeks with no improvement went back to Dr. and was put on another cream and an antibiotic - no improvement he went back to Dr. today and was told he has herpes 2 and also told that he could have had it for 30 years - he does have a white cluster of bumps but this has been going on since christmas and from what I have read this is way too long for herpes We are both in total shock about this and  any help to understand this would be greatly appreciated.

Anything visual is not 100% and even then a test requires a few rounds sometimes. It's going to be a journey.

Yes he could have had this long ago and it lay dormant.

Though, where are the visual markers on him and what do they look like? What made the doctor say that? Did the doctor take swabs?

Thank you Predisabo! We are not going to let this disease win!  Your words definitely gave me some peace of mind and I will ask the doc to run the blood test on my husband. So it is possible that he got this even before we were together? I just dont understand why I have no symptoms. But I am thankful I dont.  And I am thankful for your kind words.  Thanks....

I am sorry, I just saw it was visually, please do an IGG Blood Test. I am new to this too, so I will also wait for the elders to come in.

This happen to me and my wife, firstly don't point fingers, it's ok. It's a sneaky virus that can go dormant for weeks, months to years.

How did he get tested? Blood Test (IGG)? or visual?

It can come back because of stress, taking steroid based meds, being ill, sleeping late or long term antibiotics.

The stigma is what hits the hardest, don't let it do that to the both of you please; 30 years of marriage - it's like a Cold or a Sore Throat, pop a cycle of pills and you are done.

My Wife also found out she has 2, I have 1 and 2 - the best part was as my symptoms were showing I was showing negative results, she showed low positives. We've done all the tests and now know what's clear.

She is going to adopt my 1 so we will be "Herpily in Love"

Hold his hand, don't let go. It's a wrecking ball of a sneaky virus, don't let it win.
