Herpes simplex weakens immune system

Dear Medhelp users.

Yesterday i came accross an article where is mentioned that the HSV is weakening the immune system over time.
is that true?
Now im a bit scared.
I will copy paste a part from where this is mentioned:

"Most of all, though, herpes weakens the immune system over time and puts victims at higher risk for diseases like meningitis, hepatitis, and other STDs, including AIDS. Ninety percent of HIV-infected individuals also have an HSV-2 infection. Also, herpes puts women at greater risk for cervical cancer. In other words, you really don't want to get it, spread it, or be exposed to it."

I can post the whole link, but i dont know if its allowed!

Well i think that Fleetwood20 got a point  here!
I never heard before that the HSV VIRUS can weaken the immune system!
That would mean that the HSV VIRUS can destroy the CD4 cells like the HIV virus does!

Most autoimmune diseases are a malfunction of the immune system with genetic predispositions. Often a bacteria or virus is needed to be a trigger, but not always.

Some bacteria and virus are suspicious in their proximity to auto immune and other diseases. CMV, EBV and HH6 are sometimes implicated and are well ahead of HSV1 and HSV2. Viruses tend to pale into insignificance against bacteria.

Note that auto immune diseases are not a weakened immune system but an overactive one.

I can't comment to the cancer portion...  But herpes has been clearly implicated in numerous auto immune diseases.  Anyone who states otherwise either hasn't done their due diligence or isn't affected and thinks it's nonsense.   I know all too well as I have viral(hsv2) induced reiters disease.  The immune system is complicated and not everyone will react the same.  Depending on how your body reacts to the virus....  It can absolutely weaken your immune system...  And your chances of developing or catching something else are much greater.   People who limit the scope of herpes to just the virus itself are doing a huge disservice to those who not only suffer from the virus..  But also suffer one of the insidious diseases it can cause.

There are numerous factual errors here that brings the whole article into question.

There is no evidence that the immune system is weakened through HSV. Absolute nonsense that 90% of HIV positive people have HSV2. There is no link between HSV2 and cervical cancer (unlike HPV).
