Hsv-1 symptoms

About two weeks ago i had tiny bumps on my left nostril later water blisters. Couldnt get to see a Dr. for 5 days.  I also had swelling of the parotid gland.  Told Dr. (saw this site) that i thought i had HSV-1 and he agreed and gave me script for acyclovir pills and ointment. Wow! $ 106.  Anyway i forgot to tell him (didn't get connection)  that maybe a week or two before the oubreak i had a couple episodes of a swollen tongue.  Thought problem with teeth or something and just gargled with warm salt water.  What I am asking is or has there been anyone that has had these other symptoms?  The gland swelling? The tongue swelling?  The last time i had this happen was about 1990 and the Dr. Treated me for a bad flu.  Please let me know if you have ever heard of these other symptoms, I am wondering if perhaps i should go to an ENT?

they could've easily done a lesion culture of symptoms as well as gotten a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is.

sounds like it's something other than oral herpes but at this point, no easy way to know. Most viruses that cause these symptoms will go away on their own within a week or two anyways. If symptoms persist for longer than 2 weeks, return to be seen.

Hi Grace,
No i did not get any test.  He looked at my reddened and swollen nostril  and felt my parotid gland and wrote script.  Ouch!  How are doctors suppose to test?  I am just worried because of the tongue and parotid gland swelling. In looking over this forum i have not seen symptoms like mine.  Perhaps there are specialists to go to that test?
