Tests for herpes

My partner said he had a test for herpes and he said he had to wait 2 weeks for the results. He had them by letter and he said they were positive. He said he got the results by letter. This caused awful problems between us as you can imagine. After a few weeks he told me that he had another letter saying the clinic had given out the wrong results and he has to go back. He told me he did and then had to wait 2 weeks. He has now said the test have come back negitive. Could this be true? I have not seen any of the letters? Please help?

Wait! There is a lot to unpack here.

1. Do you have herpes? Hsv1 or hsv2 or both? How were you diagnosed?

2. What kind of herpes test did your partner take? Were there index values with his results?

3. What do you mean you never had "full" intercourse? If a penis did not enter a mouth, anus or vagina, the odds that herpes was transmitted is close to zero.

I have herpes, I had an really bad out brake on my vagina, a few years ago, went to a clinic, the nurse said it was and took swobs and blood test, I got a call to say it was herpes. I have also had cold sores so I would think I have both. I have not had a out brake or symptoms for a long time.

Two weeks after we were intermit He said he went to a clinic, as he had symptoms, they took swobs and did blood test. He said he had to wait 2 weeks for results and they came back positive. That's the only detail i know. Then a few weeks later said he got a letter saying the clinic gave people the wrong results. He then had to return ( I don't know what tests were done) he said he had to wait other 2 weeks and now the tests have come back negitive.

We never had full intercourse. We only touched each other's genitals.

I have been in so much turmoil about it all and have felt awful. He has made me feel pretty bad to, I was honest with him regarding the herpes from the beginning too. Just to be rejected now after all what has gone on because I have this and now he has said he is negitive is just the worst feeling and I am just so upset and struggling.
You may want to make sure that you are infected with hsv2 because if you are not and your genital infection is hsv1, then you can still get infected with hsv2.

It's unlikely, not impossible, but unlikely he was infected by you through mutual masturbation. His testing experience and results seem a bit unlikely too. You may want to proceed with caution with this person. Sounds like you might be getting manipulated.

Also, you did the right thing by disclosing your hsv status to him. You deserve a lot of credit for doing the morally and ethically responsible thing. If he indeed was infected, you shouldn't be getting down on yourself. He acted under his own volition with complete knowledge. I hope you can move on from this.

It’s certainly possible

People I have spoken to seem to think it wouldn't be the case. It's caused me so much stress, I just wanted to know from a medical point of view. Knowing I had given him these even though we had never had full intercourse was so upsetting for me and now this.
