Genital Herpes from Oral

I have recently been exposed to a female with genital herpes while being separated with my wife. I was told by the new partner that she has not had an OB in three years and was not having one during or after a one time exposure. The exposure was a very brief (2 minutes max), latex condom protected act of vaginal intercourse. The woman said she does not know what type of herpes she has, only that it is genital. She is not on any suppressive meds. I got a full STD panel done exactly one week from the exposure and everything but HSV-1 came back normal. I have NEVER had a cold sore to my knowledge so this kind of puzzled me. My wife and I decided we really do love each other and wanted to work things out. One day I felt a severe nerve tingling in my upper lip and when I looked at it in the mirror it was just a puffy spot. The spot never became a sore or blistered. That night I preformed oral sex on my wife for a long time. About a week later she began having a very severe genital OB for the first time. Is it possible that I gave her herpes orally? I have not had any noticeable OB's on my genitals, only what appears to be a couple of ingrown hairs, which is normal for me.

My guilt that I may have done this to her is outstanding. She said she was not intimate with anyone else during our "off" time except for some deep kissing. I truly believe her, she is a very trustworthy woman, unlike her male counter part :-(.....

Even though most adults have hsv1 orally, only 20-40% of them ever get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected. Yes indeed everyone who is infected with hsv1 orally sheds the virus periodically and you can potentially transmit it to a partner even without symptoms present.

has your wife been seen yet? She'll need a baseline herpes igg blood test to see what her status is. A lesion culture of active symptoms is also a good idea if the lesions are still fairly "fresh" when she is seen.  She'll also need tested for yeast and bacterial infections too.

I also encourage you to repeat your herpes igg blood test for hsv2 in a few months just to err on the side of caution. A one time protected encounter is low risk but it can happen.

It was harsh and meant to be and it was based on what you said.. If you THOUGHT for one second you might possible be infected no matter what the symptom is, you don't engage in anything that could infect others.. From you exposure I doubt you caught anything but do get checked with an IGG Herpes Select andd be done with it!! She might not even have it either but get her checked to! Maybe she cheated on you and caught it from someone else or she has been infected with it for a long time and is now showing symptoms or it isn't even herpes at all! We are all guessing here. Go get checked out!!

That is harsh!!! As I said in my post, I have never had a cold sore that I can remember... My main question is whether or not I could be an asymptomatic shedder. I did not associate the tingling/puffy lip to being herpes until after the fact.

Unbelievable... You mean to say you thought you MIGHT be having an outbreak and decided to perform oral sex on your wife for a very long time after what you saw that day? You very well might have given her Herpes if you indeed were having an outbreak. Did you think if she didn't get it you were clean and if she got it you had your answer? I see where your guilt comes from. Sorry if I am being overbearing here but the facts are you were with someone who said she had herpes and you felt a sore develop on your mouth and you performed oral sex for a very long time on your wife.. Go have your wife checked out ASAP before the sores go away and see what they think it is! On the other hand, if you indeed only had protected vaginal intercourse with this woman for 2 mins, I doubt she gave you herpes. I am just amazed that you thought in your mind she might have given it to you and you had some weird symptoms and you performed oral sex on your wife.... I will pray you both come back clean....
