Red and Burning Positive for Herpes 2 Symptom or Outbreak

I tested positive for Herpes2. I have had a very red burning vagina. I went to the gyno and they thought it was a yeast infection I had no sores. the test for yeast came back negative, this burning and redness with some itching lasted about 2 weeks.  Could this be the herpes? I never got sores but it hurt.   Any idea?

Sorry, I meant to say NOT herpetic which is why it's important you view your blood results and confirm your diagnosis.

The first outbreak typically lasts the longest, with future ones lasting a few days to a few weeks, depending on how your body handles outbreaks. At this point all you can really do is continue to follow up with your doctor.

I'm not one of the experts on here, but wanted to share the information I got from my doctor/learned on here. Hoping Life360 or Fleetwood can give you a little more info :)

When she examined me she didn't say it looked herpetic.  Nothing else was done, thought it was a yeast infection she said and then later test came back negative.  I had blood work done to confirm the herpes.  I had another time after I was exposed with the same symptoms but I treated myself with monistat and never went in I thought it was yeast.  IF it was herpes Im experiencing does it come and go and clear up on its own after a couple days or weeks or ?

I'm not trying to give you false hope, but a scary truth I have learned is that not all doctors are as informed with herpes testing as they should be, and you will read many similar cases all over this forum. That's why it is important to ask your doctor exactly what your results were and what type of test you had done. The fact that your doctor saw your rash and did think it looked herpetic and you had no symptoms prior to the test (and still have no sores) is why I think it's important you confirm your results.

While the rash could be herpes related, if it reappears have it swabbed for hsv no more than 48 hours after appearing (though I have heard some doctors won't swab without sores present). You should also be tested for bacterial infections and it could just be a reaction of some type or vaginitis... even if you are positive for herpes, it is important to treat your other symptoms if they are in fact unrelated. If you confirm your hsv diagnosis and continue to get rash outbreaks, you can always discuss the option of taking anitivirals with your doctor to see if that helps

I had a routine check up and asked to be tested because I was exposed. Im sure it is not a false positive. My obgyn handed me a 2 page pamphlet and sent me on my way.  It can be a rash also?  If I don't have blisters is there a way to confirm if its a symptom or outbreak with some sort of swab test?  Thank you for all your responses.

When you tested positive, were you having any symptoms or did you go in for a routine checkup? If you never had an outbreak prior to this, I'd check in with your doctor to see what type of blood work you had done (IgM or IgG) and ask what the values were (to make sure it's not in the false-positive range). It would seem weird that after never having symptoms you all of the sudden would have your first outbreak a few weeks after being diagnosed-- normally I feel like it would be the other way around- symptoms first, then positive diagnosis.

If you did have symptoms when you were tested, and this "outbreak" was totally different than anything you have felt since being diagnosed, there is a chance it isn't herpes related. While your yeast test was negative, could be bacterial or some other type of infection.

Based on my own experience, I'm told that herpes can just present itself as a rash without classic symptoms, but many things other than herpes can cause irritation as well. So it is important to follow up with your doctor to be sure there isn't something else going on that is causing these symptoms.

I was tested positive for Herpes2 via blood test.  Didn't know if what I had weeks later was an outbreak , symptoms or something else? My yeast infection test was negative.

How were you diagnosed as being positive for hsv 2? If it was by a swab or IgG blood test at 12-16 weeks, then this is conclusive. Is there a reason you are questioning your diagnosis?
